Include Oral Health in New Year’s Resolutions

Include oral health in this year’s New Years Resolutions.  Year after year many of us start January by saying, “I’m going to lose weight, I’m going to eat healthy, I am going to spend less”…blah, blah, blah.  How many people can really say they have made the changes for more than say, 2 weeks? Why not try something new this year?

Has it been a while since you’ve seen your dentist? Make it a priority to visit every 6 months.  Prevention is the key to dental success. According to Delta Dental, “By seeing your dentist at least twice a year, you can help prevent any dental health problems before they cause discomfort or require more comprehensive or expensive treatment. Regular visits allow your dentist to monitor your oral health and recommend a dental health regimen to address areas of concern.”

If you don’t currently floss, make it part of your daily routine.  Do you only brush once a day? Make it twice, maybe even 3x.  Do you remember to brush your tongue? If not, buy a tongue scraper and keep it handy.  Trying to lose weight and increase your oral health? Eliminate candy and sweets from your diet, your teeth and your waistband will thank you.

No matter what your resolution is, start small and be realistic, you’ll be more likely to stick with it!
