Top 3 Reasons to Take Care of Your Teeth
There are many reasons to brush your teeth. So, we have decided to focus on the top three. Brushing is one of the most important steps in your personal hygiene regimen, but most people do not brush their teeth enough. Most dentists recommend brushing at least twice a day and after every meal. It may seem like a lot, but consider these reasons why you should work hard to take care of your teeth.
- Bad Breath. When bacteria builds up in your mouth, you start to experience bad breath. By brushing, you remove the food particles that this bacteria and odor thrive on.
- Tooth Decay. When the bacteria is allowed to stay in your mouth for long periods of time, it also starts to eat away at the enamel of your teeth, which can result in cavities. The biggest area bacteria can impact is the space between your teeth, where your tooth brush bristles can’t reach. This is where flossing plays a big role in fighting tooth decay.
- Gum Disease. As bacteria continues to linger on your teeth, your gums are also impacted. Gum disease actually causes more loss of teeth than tooth decay. More than three quarters of adults between the ages of 16-24 and almost nine out of ten of adults over 55 have some degree of gum disease.
Take care of your teeth. Brush and floss daily. Visit a dentist twice a year for regular check-ups and deep cleaning. Work with your dentist to address any current problems and form a treatment plan you can afford. If you take care of your teeth, they will last a lifetime. And, you will feel confident when you “Smile Big!”
